Great things have been going on at RCES since school was able to resume after snow and Christmas holidays.
Mr. Way’s 5th grade Social Studies classes have been studying colonial times, and they had an old fashioned quilting bee. He taught them how to sew by hand, using fabric cut into 7 by 7 inch squares the students brought from home.
They made two large and one medium size quilt. Thirty students worked on the quilt at a time during three class periods. That’s fast work! The students learned how to sew and that the colonists used all their available resources; nothing was wasted.
The quilts will be on display in the main hall. Please look for them. Mr. Way said the students would like to donate the two larger quilts to an organization that might use them or give them to those who could use them. If you have any suggestions » please call Mr. Way.
