The techniques Mr. Wisniewski used are hard to envision without seeing his demonstration, which is probably why the demonstration was so well received by the students. It was like being told the tricks of a magician after enjoying the show.
Mr. Wisniewski himself is clearly a man of multiple talents, able to change his voice and persona at will, to teach children, and to write wondrous books, illustrated with his cutout paper figures.
Mr. Wisniewski’s visit to the schools was courtesy of Rappahannock’s Curriculum Enrichment Programs, funded mainly through private donations and administered entirely by volunteer parents.
So far this year, the curriculum Enrichment Committee has brought in a bluegrass fiddler for elementary school workshops and an evening square dance; two performers from Africa who left students so inspired, they have repeatedly requested their return; a jazz ensemble that took high schoolers on a musical journey through Latin America; the Interact Story Theater, which did languagedevelopment workshops for prekindergarten and kindergarten students (including those at the Child Care and Learning Center); and Sharon Wyrrick, who did a popular movement workshop for first-graders.
