WHY DOES THE TOWN HAVE A HISTORIC DISTRICT ORDINANCE? WHAT CAN AN ARCHITECTURAL REVIEW BOARD REQUIRE ME TO DO, AND WHAT CAN T IT REQUIRE ME TO DO WITH MY PROPERTY? WHAT DOES ALL THIS MEAN TO ME, A CITIZEN OR LANDOWNER IN THE TOWN?
The Architectural Review Board of the 'Ibwn <Jf Washington and the Town’s Attorney will discuss these issues and others at its regularly scheduled meeting on February 8, 1996 at 7:30 o'clock P.M. at the Town Hall on Gay Street in Washington, Virginia. This meeting was originally scheduled for January 11, 1996, but was postponed twice due to inclement weather. The public is invited and requested to attend and participate in the open discussion.
It is expected that the discussion will include, but will not be limited to the following topics:
1. Discussion of the purpose and history of the Historic District Ordinance (HDO), and the Architectural Review Board (ARB);
2. Review of the record of approvals and denials of the Tbwn of Washington ARB;
3. Discussion of those matters which are to be considered by the ARB, and those that are not to be considered;
4. Discussion of those items which the HDO exempts from review, or which allows the Administrator to exempt or approve;
5. Discussion of how the HDO interacts with the Town's Comprehensive Plan, and zoning and subdivision ordinances;
6. What about the orange polka dot house? Issues of "compatibility," "open space requirements," "property rights" of the owner vs. property rights of nearby owners;
7. What kind of detail does the applicant have to show on his or her application?
If any citizen is interested in this subject, and wants to ask questions, just listen, support the HDO, or complain, you are invited to attend this meeting.
