In the game versus George Mason, there were many three-pointers by both sides. The Panthers led through most of the game but were down at the end of the third quarter.
During Friday’s game the score was tied at the end of the fourth period, so four minutes were added to the clock and a heated overtime was played. The stands were packed both nights with cheering, clapping, stomping Rappahannock fans.
The JV dropped both games, losing to Brentsville 47 to 38 and to George Mason 50 to 47.
Jason Baldwin came down to the floor in a crash with 25 seconds left on the clock at the end of the George Mason game. He stayed on the floor for quite a while and was attended by Dr. Brooke Miller before being carried off.
Athletic director Mike Tupper said he rolled an ankle that had already been taped, and they did not want to risk further injury. On Tuesday nobody knew how soon he will be able to return to play.
The Panther JVs led throughout the first two quarters and carried a 24 to 16.lead into halftime, but George Mason picked the lead apart in the third quarter which ended with Mason up 39 to 35. Rapp struggled back in the fourth quarter, even holding the lead briefly, but could not prevail.
Coach Luther Stanley was not discouraged. “They came out in the second half and out hustled us,” he said. “We didn’t pick up the slack on defense. Eventually it’s going to come to us.”
