The Panthers had two astounding wins this past week, knocking the first and second-place teams in the district down a notch.
On Friday they beat the Brentsville Tigers 88-83, end on Monday they downed the George Mason Mustangs 77-70.
Varsity Coach Eugene Baltimore was ecstatic at the end of both games. “What can I say? The kids never gave up,” he, said Friday, “I told them that if we played four quarters of basketball then we would win. I’m real proud of each one of them. The kids were making good decisions and playing real hard.”
Mr. Baltimore viewed Monday as a replay of Friday, adding: “They just kept fighting and fighting and kept the momentum up.”
The lead scorer for both games was Jon Butler, who has been showing off his true colors lately by making multiple inside and outside shots. Other high scorers were Willie Eastham, Jeff Atkins, Tommy Settle, and Chris McLear.
Throughout both games, each side fought for retention of the ball. Shots for both sides were going in, with the Panthers getting most of the rebounds.
In both games the fourth-quarter was the most intense part. Shots were more frequent, the crowd got into it, and the players really picked up the fight.
In the middle of Friday’s game, co-captain Jason Brown injured his knee. He wais sidelined for the game Monday. It is uncertain when he will be able to play again.
