Wills.Odell Carter will sing several common meter songs. Other individuals will read short selections of poetry and prose from historic and modem Black writers. The audience will participate in several hymns.
The program is planned on the assumption that the values and ideas from the past that have been at the heart of Black community life are operative today and will shape the fiiture. The members of the committee planning the event for March 8, some of who will participate in it, are largely those who worked on the. previous two Black History of Rappahannock programs held at die library.
As usual, refreshments will be served following the program and everyone is invited to come.
Hikes Planned
The Ragged Mountain Resource Center will be continuing its series of hikes and other outings in the weeks and months ahead, especially as the weather improves and die spring wildflowers start to show.
The next two hikes are scheduled for Saturday, March 2nd to Broad Hollow and the Hazel Mountain area, and Saturday, April 6th to the Litde Devil’s Stairs area.
Both hikes will begin by meeting at Mountainside Market on U.S. 211 west of Sperryville at 10 a.m. From there car caravans will proceed to the hike locations, and return to Mountainside Market after the hikes between 3 and 4 p.m.
Hikers should bring layered clothing according to the weather of the day, and food enough for themselves. All ages are welcome. Children under 12 should be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
