NOTICE OF PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD AND PUBLIC HEARING Notice is hereby given in accordance with Section 9-6.14:7.1 and Section 62.1-44.15:01 of the Code of Virginia that the State Water Control Board intends to amend VR 680-21-00 Water Quality Standards.
Rappahannock County are revisions of trout stream designations in the Rappahannock River Basin found on pages 102 - 106 of the proposal approved for public comment by the State Water Control Board in September 1994. Also proposed are minor revisions involving sections 3 and 3a of the Rappahannock River Basin on page 102 of the same proposal.
Any point source discharges to trout streams must have treatment technologies that maintain more stringent dissolved oxygen, temperature and in some cases, ammonia water quality standards than discharges to warm water streams in order to protect the trout fishery. These water quality standards are found in VR680-21-01.5 and VR680-21-01.14. Also, discharges to the highest quality natural trout streams (those identified by the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries as Class i and iij are not allowed to use chlorine or other halogen compounds for disinfection purposes or other treatment purposes.
