Janet Bessmer is a mental health clinician at Family Guidance Services in Washington who specializes in family and child therapy.
She has her master’s degree in clinical psychology from the University of Florida, and is presently working on her doctorate in clinical psychology from there. She hopes to receive that degree sometime this summer.
Her dissertation includes working on a coding system that helps describe the behavior of children and their parents. The coding system has been around since the 1970’s, she said, but she has helped revise it over that last three or four years.
Ms. Bessmer works in the Washington office of Family Guidance Services on Tuesdays and Thursdays; she spends two other days at the office ift Warrenton. She replaces Andolyn Fitzgerald who now works full time in the Warrenton office. - She is the only female therapist in the office and sometimes gets referrals from people who prefer to see a female therapist. The other therapists, who are both full time, are Gary Rafala and Bob Treanor.
