Opposition
To the Editor:
1 completely disagree with the editor’s comments from last week. The very strong opposition to the Sperryville bypass is opposition to the bypass itself.
A bypass is not the best solution for Sperryville or the county. Sperryville is currently surrounded by major roads. Adding another one with fast-moving traffic will not improve village life. VDOT already has stated that if they build the Sperryville connector they intend to acquire a right of way for 4 lanes for the hew road. The study area also splits Sperryville residents on the east side, putting a connector right through the center of the village.
One of the greatest assets to Sperryville is that it is enhanced by the beauty of the agricultural land Miller owns. A road right through that area would greatly detract from Sperryville’s appearance, add fastmoving noisy traffic, and increase pollution. Also, with development of the area around the connector road, Sperryville may see even more through traffic, the very problem it sought to prevent.
Sperryville’s economy is indeed fragile. The editor writes that “far too many properties in the village are on the market and not selling”. Perhaps
