For the second year in a row, the Rappahannock News won the sweepstakes for weekly newspapers in Virginia with circulation under 4,000 at the Virginia Press Association convention in Richmond Saturday.
The sweepstakes award is for accumulating the most points in awards for writing, graphics and page design.
Cindy Mahan was again the big winner with seven awards. She vyon first in photo illustration for her color photograph of winning entries in canning at the Culpeper, Madison Rappahannock Farm Show. She also won third in the same category for a photograph of an apple cut in half.
Her other first place award was for a pictorial photo, a study in black and white of a snow scene in the F.T. Valley of a fence and its shadows. Her other photography awards were third place in feature photo for a pic
