Kaye Kohler •

Home: Amissville Occupation: Administrative Assistant for the Town of Washington

Accomplishments: Kaye Kohler was born in Allentown, Pa. and grew up on a farm in the nearby countryside until she was 12. When she was in the fifth grade she took a driving trip with her family to Florida and claims that Virginia was her favorite state. For nine years she lived in the D.C. area and attended college for two years at the Catholic University of America and later received a BA from the University of Maryland. For seven years she taught pre-school and says she thoroughly enjoyed that atmosphere. Quite often she would come hiking and camping in the Blue Ridge Mountains and hated to drive back with the Sunday traffic. Mrs. Kohler has worked in up scale restaurants for over 25 years. She actually started doing this because she wanted to build her own house and needed the money and time for that adventure. Mrs. Kohler feels as if that was a perfect way to make a living in the county and still get the time she needed with her older son, Michael. Mrs. Kohler enjoyed restaurant work, because often she would know what people wanted before they asked for it. She always gave the service that she enjoyed receiving. In October, 1988 she married Rick Kohler, with a ceremony on Red Oak Mountain. She continued working a few nights a week for friends who owned or managed restaurants because of her love for that type of work. Also, it enabled her to stay home with son number two, Andrew until he was of school age. Mrs. Kohler has worked for the Town of Washington for five and one-half years as the Administrative Assistant. As such she handles all day-to-day activities for the Town under the Mayor’s and the Treasurer’s supervision and is the principal interface of the Town with the public. She answers all correspondence, handles the water billing and collection, writes checks for billing, maintains the town’s accounts, fills in reports, and does numerous other things. Mrs. Kohler says, “I love this job, too, because it is always challenging, always changing, and I can use my organizational skills, wfiich have always benefited me in my work, to “manage” (but I’m not the manager) all aspects of Town (government.

Mrs. Kohler is a member of Trinity Episcopal church and very active with the annual House Tour and Pried Flower Sale. She has served as co-chairman for two years. Even with all of these
