Howard Richard Shaw Sr., 70, died Dec. 14 at his home in Amissville.
He was bom June 6, 1929, in Boston, Mass. His parents were the late Norman H. and Clara Corey Shaw.
He was an active member of the Precious Blood Catholic Church, and Knights of Columbus, John Cempre Council #6328.
After twenty-three years of service, Mr. Shaw retired on Jan. 16, 1970 from the United States Marine Corps and continued his calling of helping and teaching others through Civil Service; Army Engineer Command and Defense Mapping Agency receiving numerous civilian awards and recognition during this time.
Mr. Shaw loved gardening, golf and teaching.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Margaret Carriveau Shaw; five daughters, Pat Sitnik, Ann Marie Seabolt, Kathleen Atkins, Jacqueline Bremmerman and Kimberly Benson and one son, Howard Richard Shaw Jr.
Additional survivors include two brothers, Norman Shaw of Charlestown, Mass, and Robert Shaw of Hope, Maine and nine grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by one son, Kenneth Michael Shaw and two brothers, Russell Shaw and Arthur Shaw.
A mass of Christian burial was held Friday, Dec. 17 at Precious Blood Catholic Church with Father Leo Zonneveld officiating.
Interment followed at Qbantico National Cemetery.
