was never my intent. I figured that that would hurt the business, they would be looking for changes and I wasn’t making any changes.”
But she survived the initiation and is happy with the operation. She views the business as “very healthy and I intend to keep it that way. I don’t intend to do anything that would hurt that.”
Small changes for shop
And now that Roark has become acclimated to her new enterprise 9he has thought about small growth and change. She says, “I want my business to grow, but I don’t want it to get ruined. I don’t want anything out here to look like (Route) 234 in Manassas.”
“I was thinking off the front porch, do a step down and put a little raised up area and instead of people parking right in front of the building like they do, I could have a couple of tables out there.”
“My fear about putting the tables out front, if I put them on ground level, is that someone will run over them trying to park.”
Roark finds relaxation
Since leaving Northern Virginia, Roark has been feeling healthier, “I sleep a lot better at night. It (the restaurant) is a fast paced business, but I like it. I think I thrive on that.”
The restaurant business is stressful, but a different type of stress than what Roark experienced at the mortgage company. Roark explains the restaurant stress is something she can handle. She says, “It’s not something that eats at you or drags you down everyday.”
And as for the quaint town Roark finds herself in: “I like it here. Sperryville is, I think the word I’m looking for is eclectic. It’s a good combination—the lifestyle, businesses, and people.”
