Mrs. Biggs also mentioned that the school board is looking at a policy whereby the school system would provide tuition-free education for the children of out-of-county teachers. She notedthat this would be an aid to attracting teachers in a tight labor market. The board discussed this proposal but moved, by a vote of three to two, to retain the existing policy wherein tuition-free education can not be provided.
Other activities
• The Board discussed and tabled indefinitely the development of a dog barking ordinance.
• Administrator McCarthy updated the Board on E911 system developments, noting that Bell Atlantic agreed to provide Sprint with database updates, and Sprint will provide them in turn to Rappahannock for E911 system maintenance.
• Administrator McCarthy reported that a new Ford F150 was ordered from Winchester Ford for use as an animal control vehicle. Delivery is expected before the end of April.
• Mr. McCarthy also reported on ballfield progress, noting that the contract is approximately 66 percent complete and $117,000 has been obligated so far. He said that he expects that the excavating contractor will be finished within two weeks. The provision of electrical service and well drilling are two major items of work remaining.
