The Rappahannock County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating the assault on a Viewtown woman that was reported to have occurred at her home on Feb. 29 at about 4:15 p.m.

According to Sheriff Larry Sherertz, the woman received serious injuries in the attack, including a large laceration on her head. She was struck with a blunt instrument, possibly some sort of club.

The motive for the attack is unclear, said Sherertz, since there was no sexual assault, and nothing was taken from the woman.

“At this time, we’re treating this case as a straight felonious assault,” said Sherertz.
