Wardell Timbers
Former resident
Wardell Thomas Timbers, 59, of Harrisburg Pa., formerly of Rappahannock County, died on Monday, Feb. 28 at Harrisburg Hospital in Harrisburg, Pa.
He was the son of the late Elder Smith W. Timbers and Sarah E. Flurry.
He was a self employed painting contractor.
Survivors include two sons, Keith Timbers and Leonard Timbers; four sisters; his twin sister and brother-in law, Odell and Jesse Carter of Madison, Bessie Timbers, Viola Timbers and Enola Butler, all of New York; brother-in-law, William Lindsay of North Carolina and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted at Second Robinson Baptist Church in Madison on Saturday, March 4 with Elder Carroll Newman of Manassas officiating. Interment was in the family section of the church cemetery.
W.C. Thompson Funeral Home in Culpeper was in charge of the arrangements.
Helen Hawkins
Former teacher
Helen Marie Hawkins, 80, died Tuesday, Feb. 29 in Richmond.
A native of Culpeper, she was born Dec. 31, 1919, a daughter of the late Adolphus Wise “Jim” and Clara Idella Taylor Hawkins.
Survivors include a brother, Adolphus W. Hawkins Jr. of Richmond; a sister, Dorothy Bridgman DeShazo of Fairfax; three nieces and three nephews.
She was predeceased by a sister, Mrs. Andrew Wilson (Clara Margaret) Brown.
A former teacher and librarian, she had been an active member of several civic, patriotic and historical organizations.
Her ashes were placed in the Hawkins family cemetery, Eggbomsville Road, Culpeper.
Contributions may be made to the Culpeper Museum or the Rappahannock Historical Society.
