play is Dr. Dean Havron of Winchester, who not only plays the banjo but collects them and is something of a historian of the instrument. The “banjo doctor” is featured in the May and June issue of Insights magazine, which reports that his collection of banjos, including some like those played by African American slaves in the early 18th Century, is worthy of a museum.
Dr. Havron, who has a family practice in Winchester, dresses in the garb of the 1860’s and plays songs of the era. He will perform at the book shop on Sunday afternoon, June 4.
Sperryville Civil War Days also will feature uniformed Civil War re-enactors, who will camp out and engage in a skirmish, and several authors of Civil War books, who will sign and discuss their books. For more information call the Old Sperryville Bookshop, 540-987-8444.
