In addition to the purchase of goats, the dairy goat project requires several pieces of expensive equipment that can be readily shared by club members. In an effort to make the project more affordable, club members have agreed to build a loan closet.
The club is organizing a benefit yard sale and pickin party on May 20 at the Sperryville Volunteer Fire Department. The yard sale begins at 10 a.m. and you can reserve a table for $10 by calling 987-7206. The pickin party starts at 5 p.m. with a dinner sold by the Sperryville Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary.
There will also be a 50/50 raffle to benefit Rappahannock 4-H. The Dairy Goat Club plans to use their portion of the proceeds to purchase small animal clippers that can be loaned to club members to trim udders. Previous donations to the club were used to purchase a set of large animal clippers and to sponsor trophies and saving bonds for the winning dairy goats to be shown at the Culpeper-MadisonRappahannock Farm Fair.
