“Greenfield,” a mile south of • Washington is the ancestral Browning place, now the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. Armistead Lewis.. The original grant for “Greenfield,” signed by Lord Fairfax and dated June 1735, hangs on its wall. This colonial mansion is filled with historical relics of great value and association, and there are numerous beauti. ful paintings, many of them the work of Mrs. Lewis. * “San Jacinto,” home of Mr. and Mrs. R.M. Menefee, also on I the Sperryville-Washington road, was built in 1836 of field stone and plaster. The original owner, Colonel Ambler, fought in the war for Texas independence and named his ; estate for the decisive battle of that war. “Apple Tree Cottage,” a quaint and interesting old place, and ; the home of Mr. and Mrs. S.E.
