ning to concentrate on preparing themselves and their goats for showing. In April, the Culpeper 4-H Dairy Goat Club sponsored a fitting and showmanship clinic at the Flather’s Meadowdean Farm. Senior 4-H member, Meghan Flathers ably taught fitting and showing techniques with the assistance of her sister, Caitlin and brother, Will. Fitting is the preparation of a goat for show and includes bathing, clipping the hair and trimming the feet. Showing techniques include ways to lead and stand a goat for the judge’s evaluation.
The club will hold an informal practice show in Sperryville on May 27. This will give club members another opportunity to brush up on their skills before the Virginia State Dairy Goat Association Show on June 3 and 4. The VSDGA Show will be followed by the CMR Farm Fair in July and the State Fair in September.
The Rappahannock 4-H Dairy Goat Club would especially like to thank the Rappahannock businesses and individuals that have supported the club in its first year.
