The Virginia Commission for the Arts has announced an Oct. 16 deadline for 20002001 Teacher Incentive Grant program applications from eligible elementary and secondary classroom teachers. Applications must be received by the Commission no later than 5 p.m., Oct. 16 to be considered. A highly competitive program, applications from elementary and secondary teachers throughout Virginia are submitted for consideration each year.

The Teacher Incentive Grant Program provides limited financial assistance of up to $300 to individual elementary or secondary teachers for innovative arts resources or programs for the classroom, to hire arts consultants or professional artists for classroom activities, or to purchase consumable materials for an innovative classroom project.

This program is designed to promote cross-curricular learning in the classroom by linking the arts with core Standards of Learning (SOL), non-arts learning objectives, or by integrating . units of study in science, mathematics, social studies, English/language arts with architecture, creative writing (fiction/poetry), dance, folk arts, music, theatre, visual art, film/video, or a combination of arts disciplines.
