Rappahannock resident Bob Weinberg of Sperryville qualified on Aug. 4 with the State Board of Elections in Richmond as the Democratic nominee for Presidential Elector from the Tenth Congressional District of Virginia. If elected on Nov. 7, he will cast one of Virginia's 13 votes in the Electoral College for A1 Gore.
Presidential Electors chosen by voters of each state will formally cast their state's electoral votes on Dec. 18, with at least 270 of the total 538 electoral votes being required for the election of the President and Vice-President.
"I welcome the opportunity to vote in the Electoral College, on behalf of Virginia's Tenth District residents, for A1 Gore as our next President," Weinberg said after filing his qualifying papers in Richmond. "Gore is from our Neighboring state of Tennessee, and he lived for many years in Northern Virginia, in our Tenth District, while performing his duties on Capitol Hill as a member of the United States Congress from Tennessee.
