Rappahannock County youth made a spectacular
showing at the Culpeper-MadisonRappahannock
Farm Fair 2000.
The Grand Champion Market Hog, Grand Champion Market Lamb, Grand Champion Market Steer and Grand Champion Dairy Goat were all from Rappahannock County.
Two Best in Show awards in the Home Economics department and the County Farm Service "Youth of the Year" award also went home with Rappahannock County exhibitors.
Rappahannock Youth Home Economics exhibitors included Justin Burger, Lauren Burke, Carly and Devin Day, Robert and Samantha Falls, Anne Ashleigh Lamma, Jesse Palmer and Ben and Tommy Pendleton.
The county was represented by adult exhibitors Edith Bridget, Jennifer Gray, Evelyn Oyster, and Tom Pendleton. The Pendleton family took home top honors with Ben's Best in Show win for Youth Photography and Tom's Best in Show win in the Arts and Crafts Show.
Devin Day was named County Farm Service Youth of the Year. The Youth of the Year award is given to recognize children who are making exceptional strides in youth activities. Devin was selected for the diversity of her involvement in 4-H clubs.
She is active in numerous clubs and holds office in several. Being a Farm Fair exhibitor was only a very small part Of her 4H commitment.
The Sheep Show and the Beef Show were dominated by Katie Updike. Katie exhibited the Grand Champion Market Lamb while David Miller followed close on her heels with the Reserve Grand Champion!
David's sister, Ella, won first in the Novice Showmanship class. Kara Corbin and Brittany Thorpe took home ribbons in thfc very competitive sheep show.
Katie also exhibited the Grand Champion Market Steer following wins in both British Cross and Exotic Cross classes.
David Massie showed the Reserve Champion Bred and Owned Steer but his big win came in the swine show. David walked away with Grand Champion Market Hog, Reserve Champion Pen of Two, Grand Champion Senior Showmanship, Outstanding _ Swine Exhibitor and the Service Award
