Foster care is an essential part of the work that we do at the Department of Social Services and has far reaching impact on the lives of chib dren and families. As such we feel we need tb provide not only training in the program, but also counseling and individual attention to the needs of foster parents. They provide care for children who often require very intense oversight. '
The emphasis in the program is to achieve permanence for children, if possible with then? biological family. If not, through placement with relatives or others. That makes the naturte of being a foster parent even more difficult in that it is designed to be temporary. 1
