A survey Coalition
is forming
Beginning in April of this year, a series of meetings has occurred; the ad hoc citizens’ group has expanded into a coalition of many county groups and individuals who support the completion of the historic resources survey. Some of the county organizations that have so far joined in the effort include:
• Rappahannock County Conservation Alliance (RCCA)
• Rappahannock Historic Society (RHS)
• Rappahannock Farmers’ Association (RFA)
• Rappahannock League of Environmental Protection (RLEP)
• Amissville Area Community Association (AACA)
• Rappahannock Lions Club
• Piedmont Environmental Council (PEC)
• And Moose Hill enterprises.
In mid-May the Coalition held a meeting with Margaret Peters, the DHR’s Head of the Survey Program. She agreed that the figure of $20,000 would be enough to complete the survey at least in its most basic form—surveying the remaining 120 properties in the county deemed of historic value. It was at this meeting that Jeff Light volunteered to head the Coalition, taking the reins from Hal Hunter who had successfully gotten the survey issue back on track but who wanted to continue only in an advisory capacity.
