DMV closed for Labor Day

All Department of Motor Vehicles customer service centers will be closed Monday, Sept. 3 in observance of Labor Day. However, DMV provides a variety of convenient alternative service options for routine transactions. The virtual customer service center at www.dmvnow.com and DMV extra tellers are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Health programs scheduled

The Rappahannock-Rapidan Community Services Board invites persons 60 years of age and older to participate in the following Health Promotion/Screening programs to be held at the Rappahannock Senior Nutrition Center:

Sept. 11 at 1 p.m., program on “Preventing Falls” by Cheryll Green from Winchester Health Department; Sept. 12 at 11:30 a.m., program on “As You Age” by Judy Stevens of Virginia Coop Extension; Sept. 19 at 1 p.m., program on “Gout” by Cheryll Green of the Winchester Health Department, and on Sept. 24 at 1 p.m., exercise program by Karen Gerndt of Culpeper Regional Hospital.

Festival 2001 this weekend

The first annual Celebrate Organic Festival kicks off Americas First Organic Com Maze Labor Day weekend, Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 1 and 2 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

It is a place to come learn more about organic farming and to meet the farmers themselves. The atmosphere is festive, featuring a 3.5 acre com maze and a large courtyard of family fun, including mini-ma^es, farm animal corral, hayjump-pit, and games. There will be food, drinks, music, workshops, tours in the organic heirloom demonstration garden, a 12-stall farmers market, along with many Virginia organic farmers.

The corn maze will be open weekends September through October. The festival is located at the Archwood Green Bams in The Plains. For more information contact owners/operators, Kate and Hub Knott at 364- 2522.
