The Coalition continues its work
The Coalition wishes to help collect the remaining survey cost of $4,200 by the end of the month. Their goal is to have the survey underway by this fall. Many within the Coalition would like to see additional historical districts created within the county— such as in Woodville, Flint Hill, Amissville, and Chester Gap. Currently there are two county historic districts in the Register: Washington and Sperryville.
Others would like to see more Rappahannock properties added to the Virginia Landmarks Register, which currently lists seven: Ben Venue (at Ben Venue); Caledonia Farm (off Fodderstack Road near Flint Hill); John W. Miller House (near Slate Mills); Montpelier (in F.T. Valley); Flint Hill Baptist Church (Flint Hill); Mount Salem Baptist Meeting House (near Washington); Washington Mill (on the Old Mill Road near the library).
The survey is intended to make adding historic districts and historic properties to the Register a much simpler task for municipal governments and for property owners.
