the project can get underway. Bob Dennis, president of RCCA. announced last month that one member of the conservation group donated $10,000 for the project. At their Aug. 6 meeting, the supervisors approved a measure to allocate $2,000 to the project. On Aug. 8 the Washington Town Council voted to donate $1,000 to the project.
Normally the Virginia Department of Historic Resources offers a “purvey and Planning Cost Share Program,” but the Coalition was informed that matching funds are not available this year. The Cost Share Program often matches the funds raised within a county and—had this been the case ttyis year—the Coalition •would have exceeded its goal by now.
Individuals or groups can support the survey by making donations that are 100 percent tax deductible. Checks should be made out to “Treasurer, Rappahannock County,” marked for “Historic Survey,” and dropped off at our County Administrator’s office at 290 Gay Street opposite the Gay Street Theater. • The Piedmont -Environmental Council has contributed a homemade model of a log cabin to collect money in for the survey. On July 4 it debuted at the RLEP tent, then for the rest of the month it was at the library. The first week in August it was at the Comer Store in Sperryville; then at Settles’ Grocery in Flint Hill and is now on display at R. H. Ballard Fine Art Ltd. in Sperryville as it continues its rounds of the county.
