Jeff Light is well suited toguide the coalition process. He ' is hard at work personally ren-. ovating his 200-year-old Woodville home, which is built . on the town’s first surveyed , lot. In the summer of 1998 he helped plan and lead Woodville’s bicentennial celebration which invited groups, from the whole county to par-,' ticipate. He is the past president of the Rappahannock Lions Club and works as a consultant for corporate and military leadership training.
One of his goals with the survey is to get Woodville des-' ignated as an historic district, as is Washington and Sperryville. “This would really . help promote a greater sense of community,” he says. “This kind of grassroots effort is the best way to strengthen community values, to get everyone’ to feel connected to each other, and to a place they love and take pride in.” Light worries that community values are weakening across America and feels that initiatives like the Historic Resources Survey can help rekindle civic-mind-’ edness and a sense of shared1 values.
