The AAEA was founded in 1980 by the late Alexander MackaySmith, who helped begin so many worthy equestrian organizations, and Dr. Joseph Rogers, of the Westmorland Davis Foundation. Membership to the AAEA is based on artistic ability, proven knowledge of equine anatomy, proficiency dealing with human figures, landscape and background.
