Strong family ties
Dr. Maybach first learned about Maybach automobiles from a newspaper article he read in 1961, shortly after graduating from high school in the Minneapolis area.
There was a car show in town, and one of the entries was a Maybach. He still has a copy of the newspaper article.
Curious about the connection, Dr. Maybach has been involved in continuing genealogical research. He has traced his branch of the family back to his great-great-grandfather, Christian Henry Maybach, one of five brothers bom in Germany in the mid-1800s.
The five Maybach brothers were orphaned at a young age when their parents drowned, and the boys were sent to live with other families. Christian Henry and Karl came to America, settling in the Midwest.
