“I can see it going up maybe $20,000, but $60,000? That’s ridiculous,” Mrs. Brown said. “No one acre piece of land is worth $37,000.”

Roy Lee Beck of Boston, a retired federal fire fighter, said the earliest appointment he could get with the assessors is Jan. 13.
He is worried, like others, how he is going to pay for this increased value of his property.
Mr. Beck’s assessment went from $167,500 to $232,200 on the 10.41 acre lot with his house. An additional 3.8 acres went from $17,100 to $51,000 “rocky land nobody could ever build on”; and a third parcel of 3.33 acres went from $23,300 to $47,500.
