All of a sudden we realized that WE were the “Old Timers’ to whom young people came with their questions about how things used to be. For that reason we wanted to write down a few things so that when we are gone the new generation of “Old Folks’ will have some place to look for answers to their questions.

Elisabeth and Ned Johnson, the authors of those words, are now both gone.
Mrs. Johnson died on the first day of this year at the age of 92, almost 20 years after her husband.
Gone, too, are the days the two of them ran their family farm near Sperryville where they raised Angus cattle and apples and Mrs. Johnson, a gracefully tall, statuesque women, had her chestnut orchard.
