Dedication pays off
For the majority of us, the holidays meant time off,, maybe gating a little extra and enjoying the season.
For Rappahannock wrestlers it meant getting up early for practice, definitely not eating extra and taking the time to hone their wrestling skills.
Rappahannock traveled to McLean High School on Dec. 28 for the fourth annual Highlander Invitational.
Placing fourth in the seven-team event, Rappahannock showed being the only single A team among all AAA teams that hard work beats size. Rappahannock took three firsts, ten medals overall and two individual trophies.
Winning three of the fourteen championships were Brian Brown, Eric Norman and Jeff Scroggins. Third place medal winners were Alex Sharp, Jonathan Robinson and Stuart Hensley. Fourth place winners were Dos Allen, Justin Gheen, Bill Tucker and Jeremy Graves. Brian Brown took home two trophies; most pins with three pins and faster pin- 23 seconds.
Finishing with 122 points, Rappahannock beat Washington & Lee, JEB Stuart and McLean. Annandale was third with 137, Marshall second with 155 and Wakefield finished first with 169.
Wrestler of the week is Brian Brown. Match of the week is Dos Allen’s decision over Wakefield.
JV wrestling
Rappahannock’s JV squad participated in a JV tournament held on Jan. 4 at Fauquier High School. Placing first, with a 3-0 record including one pin was Karl Thornhill and Morgan Blubaugh, 3-0 with two pins. Tristan Sonnett went 1-3, John Miller was 1-3 and Mikkel Schroeder was 0-4.
