The Rappahannock wrestling program continues to improve, wanning 111 out of 210 matches wrestled this school year. This is the first time the wrestlers have crossed the 50% barrier. They wrapped up their holiday schedule with a second place finish at Matoaca on Jan. 4.
Competing in a 12 team tournament comprised mainly of Richmond teams, Rappahannock took two firsts, three thirds, one fourth, three fifths and two sixth place finishes.
The tournament was a hybrid tournament, which combined dual meet and individual formats. The 12 teams were paired in four three-team groups, which wrestled a round robin based on a dual meet format.
Rappahannock was paired with Collegiate and Colonial Heights. Rappahannock won both duals, 46-30 over Collegiate and 54-21 over Colonial Heights.
Posting wins against Collegiate were Kevin Martin, Jonathan Robinson, Justin Robinson, Stuart Hensley, Eric Norman, Bill Tucker, Kyle Robinson, and Jeff Scroggins.
Beating Colonial Heights were Alex Sharp, Dos Allen, Justin Robinson, Stuart Hensley, Justin Gheen, Eric Norman, Bill Tucker, Jeff Scroggins, and Jeremy Graves.
Based on dual meet performance, the first place finishers were paired in the championship bracket and the second place finishers competed for fifth and sixth.
Rappahannock had six wrestlers in the championship and seven in consolation brackets.
Capturing first place were Bill Tucker with second period pin and Jeff Scroggins with a 10-4 decision. Brian Brown, Justin Robinson and Eric Norman won third place and Stuart Hensley placed fourth. Fifth place winners were Jonathan Robinson, Justin Gheen and Jeremy Graves. Finishing sixth, in the twelveteam field, were Kevin Martin and Kyle Robinson.
