RAAC library series Jan. 10

The Rappahannock Association for the Arts and Community Library Series on Jan. 10 will feature the work of photographer Anne Keiser, whose recently released book, “Sir Edmund Hillary and the People of Everest,” celebrates the 50th anniversary of the climbing to the summit of the world’s highest mountain.

The public is invited to meet Ms. Keiser and enjoy her presentation on Friday at 8 p.m. at the Rappahannock County library. For more information, contact Sallie Morgan at 540987-8677.

Flowering trees for spring

Ten free flowering trees, including dogwoods, crabapples and American redbuds, will be given to each person who joins the National Arbor Day Foundation before Jan. 31. Yoga classes at Healing Arts Center

Yoga classes are meeting on Mondays for Bone Health and on Saturdays for Stress Management at the Healing Arts Center in Sperryville. Both classes are held from 8 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. There are still spaces available. Classes are open to all levels and no previous experience is required.

Martin Luther King, Jr. celebration

The 12th Annual Martin Luther King Jr., Celebration will feature Dr. Belle Whelan, Secretary of Education for the Commonwealth as the special guest speaker on Sunday, Jan. 19 at 4 p.m.

The celebration will include a community choir. All voices are welcome. For the rehearsal schedule, contact Lillian Aylor, 987-8064.

Additionally, winners of the student essay contest will be announced on the day of the event to be held at The Theatre in Washington, Va. The celebration is sponsored each year by the Julia E. Boddie' Scholarship Committee of Rappahannock County.
