• Environmental costs: degradation in air and water quality, steep slopes and habitats.
In 10 years, Loudoun County added 32 new schools, 4,000 school employees, 230 full time fire and rescue personnel, and 250 sheriff’s employees. The net tax-supported debt has gone from $125 million in 1994 to almost $800 million in 2003, and the debt payment has risen from $11 million per year to more than $84 million.
Not surprisingly, property taxes doubled, from an average of $1,550 in FY1994 to an estimated $3,092 in FY 1994.
