bpnng had not truly begun for me until I saw gobs of jellylike frog eggs bobbing in local ponds and stream. Not knowing much about environmental dynamics but knowing I did love frogs, I sometimes took frog eggs home to watch tadpoles miraculously emerge from them, and then turn into frogs. Usually at that point I let any surviving frogs go in the water in which they came.
Since frog eggs and tadpoles have a low survival rate in the wild, I may have even been doing them a favor—an amateur catch and release program—but as a more environmentally aware adult, I know the frogs are better left to their own devices.
