Lions annual auction

The Rappahannock County Lions Club is holding its annual auction on Saturday, May 3 at 5 p.m. at Bill Payne Auctions on Route 211 in Amissville. Antique furniture, tools, collectible glassware and silver and gold jewelry are among the items to be auctioned. Proceeds go back into the community as worthy projects helping others.

Virginia Gold Cup

One of steeplechase’s most popular races, the Virginia Gold Cup, celebrates its 78th anniversary on Saturday, May 3 at the Great Meadows Events Center in The Plains. Gates open at 10 a.m. for pre-race entertainment, including pony races. The first race is at 1 p.m. Tickets are $85 (allows car and six occupants). Call 540-687-3360.
