Local author to sign book
Local author Carolyn Reeder, known for her historical fiction for young people, will discuss and sign her latest book. Before the Creeks Ran Red, at the Old Sperryville Bookshop at 7 p.m. Thursday. June 5. The book is set in the months leading up to the Civil War, focusing on the lives of three young people: an orphan-boy bugler with the U.S. Army at Fort Sumter, a working-class Baltimore boy and the young son of a privileged family in Arlington, Va. RCCA lectureJune 11
The Rappahannock County Conservation Alliance (RCCA) will present a community lecture on June 11 at 4:30 p.m. in the court house on Gay Street in Washington. The speaker is Wingate Mackay-Smith, chairman of the Conservation Easement Authority in Clarke Count, who will discuss how Rappahannock can have such an authority. His lecture will address such issues as saving the county's open land.
