Caroline Massie, daughter of Jim and Debbie Massie represented Rappahannock County Elementary School and received a third place medallion in the annual Salem Ruritan Club Youth Oratorical contest held May 13. This year’s topic was “What Citizenship Means to Me.”
Contestants included sixth and seventh graders from Rappahannock County Elementary School, Culpeper Middle School, Floyd Binns Middle School and St. Luke’s School.
A $500 scholarship for use at a college, university, trade or vocational school following graduation from high school was awarded to the first place winners in the boys’ and girls’ contests. The second and third place winners each received medallions.

Good citizenship means privileges, duties, rights and responsibilities. It is our duty to /ote, serve on a jury, pay taxes, aut it is also a good citizen who wants to make a difference and nake the world the best that it lan be. That is what citizenship neans to me.
