Butler said that “if elected I hope to have more of a professionalized shenfFs office that operates outside of the dissatisfaction in the department."
Butler said he took a petition around last week and on the first day received the required 125 signatures to run. He said he has more than 200 signatures and will return the petition to the registrar's office this week even thought the deadline is June 10.
“I am pleasantly surprised. . and humbled. . .bv the amount of support I am getting," he said in an interview.
“I feel like the sheriff's office and fire department are two of the most important services the community' needs for safety reasons and I feel they should work more closely together. I do know there are issues between the two that need to be improved,” he said.
Butler is no stranger to this area. He was bom in Salem and up until 20 years ago lived on the Culpeper side of Bostpn. Then he moved over to the Rappahannock side where he has been for 20 years.
He and his wife, Rebecca, purchased the Boston General Store business in 1986.
Five years later, Butler wrent into private security as supervisor of security at the late Paul Mellon's Rokeby Farm estate in Upperville.
