Connie Compton of Castleton married Arthur Smith of Amissville on Saturday, May 17 at 4 p.m. The wedding and reception took place at the Laurel Mills Bed and Breakfast. The wedding party consisted of the immediate family, a best mam (Arthur’s friend), and three bridesmaids (two of Connie’s good friends and one niece). There were 200 guests in attendance. Despite the inclement weather, a good time was had by all. Lucy Compton caught the bridal bouquet and garter! However, she refused to put the garter on. Saturday evening the newlywed’s limousine arrived to whisk them off to the airport where the couple embarked on their honeymoon trip to the Caribbean Islands. Town
business The Washington Tbwn Planning Commission meeting has been rescheduled from May 26 to Monday, June 2 at 7:30 p.m. due to the Memorial Day holiday. Meanwhile, several Town Council members will attend a Loan and Grant Processing Workshop sponsored by the Virginia Rural Water Association on May 29 for persons involved in the financial aspects of water systems and other utilities. The workshop will be held in Hanover County, Va., at the Hanover County Public Utilities Operations Center from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
