Junk cars
It may no longer be fashionable here in
Rappahannock to store and display vintage (and
fairly new) wrecked automobiles along the highway, or even in out-of-the-way spots in our fair county.
At least that is so judging from the latest outcry over the display near the new Rappahannock National Bank building on Route 211.
There is some pressure now for sure—Dr. Werner Krebser's last wish for a junkless county, the bank's obvious need for a junk-free zone at its new location, the visual distress to passersby engendered by that pile of scrap steel along an otherwise pristine route.
There is a county ordinance that outlaws the outdoor storage of such heaps, though perhaps some of that pile is grandfathered.
We too call on our Board of Supervisors to enforce the ordinance throughout the county and cause those jalopies to find a better home.
