highway opened in Rappahannock County last week. The section opened is the two east-bound lanes of U. S. 211, between the Covington River at Rediviva and the already completed highway at the Washington bypass.
The Inn at Little Washington relocated temporarily to New York City recently to create a benefit dinner for the James Beard Foundation in honor of the late cooking teacher and author James Beard’s 90th birthday. The event took place at Beard’s home in Greenwich Village which has now become a culinary shrine through the efforts of noted chef and cookbook author Julia Child and other friends of James Beard. Inn staff members Tom Petot, David Shannon, Bob Fasce, Barb Wilbur, Amy Dencler, Jeff Waite and Matt Trottier and proprietors Patrick O’Connell and Reinhardt Lynch made the journey. They bought a bounty of local products, including the season’s first fresh asparagus from Butch Eastham and Marta Irmen’s garden and country ham from Tom’s Meat Market in Culpeper.
