At the conclusion of the competition, event coordinator Patty Kewer recognized local businesses that either had acted as event sponsors or had donated special prizes for all the student participants. Chevy Chase Bank was singled out for special recognition for the seven $100 savings bonds donated for each of the First Place team members and their alternates.
The event was followed by a reception, complete with delicious desserts provided by parents of the participants. Organizers are hoping that even more schools will participate in next year’s competition—book list is . already being put together and will be distributed to area teachers and local public libraries.
