Enlisted in 1862
John A. Pullen enlisted in March 1862 at Harrisonburg, Va., in Grimsley’s Infantry, known as Company B, 6th Regiment of Virginia Infantry. Pulleh was bom in Warren County on March 1, 1845, making his age upon enlistment 23. He was the son of Joseph and Narcenia Vaughan Pullen. Joseph, the father, had also enlisted in the same company at the age of 62, and was still living in 1880 at the age of 78. Joseph Pullen, Jr., also enlisted in the same company, but was killed at the Battle of Front Royal.
On Jan. 16, 1868, John A. Pullen was married in Rappahannock County to Melinda Jane Cornwell, daughter of John and Nancy Shackleford Cornwell.
On April 16, 1908, Pullen made application for a disability pension due to his infirmities by the hand of F. Pendleton Carter.
