bought a pound of coffee for 30 cents and six lemons for 25 cents. These are but a few samples of the variety of merchandise the store carried.
The store was a major operation at the time. Additional items it carried included kerosene lamps, blankets, oil cloth, hardware, curtains, harness, not to mention a full range of food stuffs.
A few months ago, my husband Danny, examined an unusual treadle sewing machine * made in Vermont. He found out from the owner, that the machine was originally bought at the Viewtown Store.
As we stop at a convenience store or go to a super market, we should take a minute to reflect on how storekeeping has changed.
