Clatterbuck, 87, died on June 13 at the Culpeper Health and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born Feb. 12, 1917 to Albert and Lizzie Atkins Clatterbuck on a tenant farm near Washington.
At the age of nine his mother died of influenza and he was raised by family and friends in the Old Hollow area of Rappahannock County. His recollections of childhood were fond memories of running free as a deer through the mountains, youthful pranks and moonshine.
The remains of an Old LaSalle automobile that he parked near Piney Ridge depict a youthful adventure of times past.
He attended the Sycamore School and- Hull School where he met Lula Dwyer and on Dec. 15, 1937 they ran off to Hagerstown, Md., to get married. From this union were born 11 children, eight boys and three girls.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
A truck driver most of his working career, he drove for John T. Sisk, C. R. Dodson, and the Culpeper Farmer’s Coop for many years before his retirement.
During retirement he helped at the Culpeper Senior Citizens Center and was always available to take a friend to a doctor’s appointment or look in on someone in need. He leaves behind itiany friends and will be missed by all that knew him.
He loved his family, grandchildren, collecting junk, trucks, blue-grass music, family reunions and white gravy over biscuits.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife; brothers Roy and Edward and one sister Anna. He is survived by one sister, Mary and her husband John France of Baltimore, Md.
Also surviving are his children: Alvin Clatterbuck and his wife Jane of Brightwood, Va.; Charles Clatterbuck and his wife Betty of Marion, Va.; James and his wife Edith of Brightwood; John and his wife Dorothy of Mitchells; Harvey, Jr. and his wife Barbara of Reva; Roger and his wife Sandy of Culpeper; Linda Elkins and her husband Larry of Orange; Lois Moore of Brightwood; Ricky Clatterbuck of Culpeper; Freddy Clatterbuck of Mitchells; and Barbara Bailey and her husband Joe of Culpeper.
