Living in a culture where self-esteem brigades often trump common sense and even children sen& the truth that the trophy they were “awarded” wasn t really earned, one young Rappahannock woman is an anomaly and a standout. She earned her accolades the oldfashioned way.
Brittany Thornhill, 17, graduated last weekend fh)m Rappahannock County High School as the top dog, the Valedictorian of her Class of 2004 who finished four years of high school with a Grade Point Average of 4.0, higher than any of her 82 classmates.
On this scale, that she was also the Female Athlete of the Year seems nice but beside the point. Academically, she finished first among equals, and she did not get there by coast
